Post-Secondary Enrollment Options (PSEO)
Post-Secondary Enrollment Options (PSEO) is a program that allows 11th and 12th grade students to earn both high school and college credit while still in high school, through enrollment in and successful completion of college-level, nonsectarian courses at eligible participating Post-Secondary institutions. Most PSEO courses are offered on the campus of the Post-Secondary institution; some courses are offered online. Each participating college or university sets its own requirements for enrollment into the PSEO courses. 11th and 12th grade students may take PSEO courses on a full- or part-time basis.
There is no charge to PSEO students for tuition, books or fees for items that are required to participate in a course. Students must meet the PSEO residency and eligibility requirements and abide by participation limits specified in Minnesota Statutes, section 124D.09.
A student interested in going PSEO, must schedule a meeting with Ms. Featherman to discuss credits and graduation requirements. Also a CHS PSEO Contract MUST be filled out EACH SEMESTER. Central High School accepts PSEO college credits with the ratio of 4 college credits equal to 1 CHS credit. Students participating in the PSEO program are responsible for choosing courses that will meet all the requirements for CHS graduation. In order to participate in the graduation ceremony, students must meet all graduation requirements 1 week prior to graduation. Before each semester students must meet with Ms. Featherman to provide copies of their college course registrations. Students are also responsible for making sure the CHS Counseling Office receives official notice of courses completed and grades.
Students must work closely with their counselor to make a graduation plan and consult with their counselor before altering their course choices. Students should contact their counselor if they have any questions about the suitability of their course selections to meet any of the CHS graduation requirements. Students who begin PSEO mid-year will often find that the end of the CHS semester 1 overlaps with the beginning of the colleges' second semesters. Students must realize that they are still responsible for all of the CHS coursework through the end of the semester.
The following forms must be completed in order to participate in the PSEO program:
