Kindergarten Here We Come!

Kindergarten teachers, Ann Hendel, Devon Ruberg and Lisa Heckert (known as the KINDER team) know exactly what it takes to educate and entertain a room full of 5 and 6 year old's. With over 37 years of combined experience; they've got a lock on Kindergarten.

This terrific trio all agreed that the best parts of teaching Kindergarten students is their eagerness to learn, the joy on their faces when they master an academic or social skill they are working on and watching how much each child changes from the beginning of the year to the end.

While the last year has presented a few challenges with distance learning, such as how to quiet down a "classroom" full of visiting kindergarteners;  "One challenge was trying to help them through a computer and not being able to physically correct them or help them from afar." said Lisa Heckert. However, the tenacious trio powered through finding and focusing on the positive aspects, such as the technology upgrades (1 to 1 initiative allowing each student in the district to have a chromebook) our district purchased though the technology levy that was passed 2 years ago; allowing them to teach "live", see their students smiling faces and answer questions in real time.

A typical day for our Kindergarten students includes: Free play, literacy, phonics, read-a-loud, math, gym, music, media, rest, lunch, recess, science, social studies, writing.

In a typical year our Kindergarten students are able to participate fun activities such as:
100th day of school, Valentines Day, St. Patrick's Day, Fall Festival, Track and Field Day.

Additionally our students are able to attend field trips including Old Log Theater, Lowry Nature Center and Gale Woods Farm.
