NHS kids making ice rink

NHS lends a helping hand

The Hamburg Fire Department would like to recognize Central NHS for their efforts with setup and flooding of the Ice Rink at the BiCentennial Park in the City of Hamburg on Saturday January 9, 2021.

With only 1 firefighter supervising, the high schoolers carried, set boards, measured, cut, and attached the outside of the rink. Then they carried, laid out, attached, stapled, and cut the excess of the tarp insert we use to hold the ice. Finally, they helped run 300' of fire hose from a hydrant and flooded the rink with water to freeze for the ice rink.
During the flooding process, we had a huge air pocket in the middle of the rink. They were able to slowly and methodically push that air pocket to the edge using just the water pressure coming off the hose and moved that pocket out the edge leaving a perfect tarped ice rink to freeze. Our supervising firefighter especially appreciated their help with the air pocket since he doesn't have the patience to do what they were able to accomplish.
They had great attitudes, jumped right in to help out, and did an awesome job.
Thank you for their help in the community.
